Tell us about your company.
Back in 1953, Metropolitan Touring embarked on a mission to share the wonders of Ecuador and the Galapagos with the world. Seven decades years later, we’ve amassed thousands of unforgettable stories from our guests, each as memorable, significant and hopefully transformative as the next, each creating profound connections between the traveler and the place they visit, the people they travel with, the people they meet and themselves. When all’s said and done, we are in the connections business.
What enables us to create these connections? Our seven decades in travel have been characterized by our Spirit, founded on curiosity, on going beyond the obvious to create truly life-affirming travel experiences for our guests; the Passion we share as a company for the journeys we design and the service we deliver; and the Vision we nurture for the future of our planet and its people.
What are your unique selling points?
Here, in our home country of Ecuador, we constantly innovate and invest to make sure your experience is top-notch from start to finish. In our beloved Galapagos, we now offer numerous options designed to enhance every experience exactly to what our passengers want. We own and operate yacht Isabela II, the perfect, intimate space for 40 guests to explore the islands in relaxed comfort; and Yacht La Pinta, a sophisticated, upscale travel experience for 48 guests. And for those who prefer the conveniences of a hotel and want to experience Galapagos on their own terms, we offer our newly renovated Finch Bay Hotel, the only beachfront hotel on Santa Cruz Island, with activities and relaxation for everyone. All of our expeditions offer carefully designed itineraries to help you see the most of the BIG15GALAPAGOS wildlife and world-class service and gastronomy that take your expedition to another level.
What is your most popular itinerary/destination?
The Galapagos Islands, the archipelago covers an area of 7,900 square kilometers, about 3,040 square miles. To put it into perspective, that’s almost the same size as the state of Mississippi or the country of Greece.
Given its size, there’s a lot of sea and ground to cover in the Galapagos. Navigation can take up to 18 hours! This is why Expedition Vessels typically travel to a new island at night, allowing you to make the most of your day at each visitor site. It’s also why our itineraries are divided into different archipelago regions.
For consecutive decades the Galapagos Islands — a National Park and UNESCO world heritage site — have consistently ranked as one of the World’s Top Destinations to visit. And it’s no small wonder: the islands are home to jaw-droppingly unique wildlife, some of which can’t be found anywhere else on our planet! These special creatures also display the remarkable characteristic of being wholly unfazed by the presence of humans.
